Glazy AI Use & Data Access Policy
Last updated: November 30, 2025
Note: This policy supplements our Terms of Service. By using Glazy, you agree to both.
Glazy is a community-built resource dedicated to sharing ceramic knowledge openly and responsibly. Thousands of contributors have added recipes, notes, images, and test results with the expectation that their work will support learning, research, and non-commercial creativity across the ceramics community.
This policy explains how Glazy content may be used in the context of artificial intelligence (AI), text-and-data mining (TDM), machine learning, and automated scraping.
1. License Reminder: CC BY-NC-SA 4.0
Unless otherwise noted, all user-contributed content on Glazy (including photographs, notes, images of ceramic tests, commentary, and documentation) is licensed under:
Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0)
- Attribution: You must credit Glazy and the contributor.
- NonCommercial: You cannot use this data for commercial advantage.
- ShareAlike: If you remix, transform, or build upon the material (including creating datasets), you must distribute your contributions under the same license.
Important distinction: While factual data (e.g., a list of ingredients: “40% feldspar”) is not copyrightable, user-supplied photography, unique descriptions, experimental notes, and the database compilation itself are protected creative works.
2. Non-Commercial AI Research Is Allowed
We support open science. You may use Glazy content for non-commercial academic research, dataset creation, and experimental modeling provided you:
- Attribute: “Data from Glazy.org (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). Contributors retain copyright.”
- ShareAlike: If you release the dataset or model, it must be under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.
- Respect Privacy: Do not use contributor images for biometric/facial recognition tasks.
3. Commercial AI Training Requires a License
Glazy does not grant permission for:
- The use of Glazy data to train, fine-tune, or test any AI model, Large Language Model (LLM), or algorithm that is intended for commercial deployment, or is owned by a commercial entity.
- Incorporating Glazy images or text into proprietary commercial datasets.
EU TDM Reservation: For the purposes of Article 4(3) of Directive (EU) 2019/790 (Copyright in the Digital Single Market), Glazy.org expressly reserves all rights to text and data mining (TDM) for all content on this site. Commercial TDM is prohibited without a license.
Commercial entities wishing to use Glazy data must obtain a separate commercial license. Please contact info@glazy.org.
4. Automated Scraping & Bulk Access
Bulk scraping, crawling, or automated harvesting of Glazy content via the web interface is prohibited without permission.
- This policy is machine-readable and enforced via our
robots.txtfile and other technical measures. Ignoring these signals is a violation of this policy. - Researchers: If you need bulk access, please email us. We prefer to provide a clean dataset export rather than have you scrape the site.
5. Ethical Expectations
By accessing Glazy, you agree to respect the intent of our contributors. Do not use this data to misrepresent artists, generate “deep fakes” of ceramic works, or for surveillance technology.
